Reflection 3

I watched 3 videos on Demo Slam
1. Extra Spicy Slam
In this video they ordered Indian food in the Hindi language. Google Translate allows you to type what you want to say in English and it will repeat back to you in the language you have chosen. I am guessing it recognizes voice too so once the Indian guy speaks back it translates it to English. In the classroom, I would use this technology for understanding languages of other cultures. Schools are so diverse now that I might even have some students that speak another language so it would help me to understand them. I would say this technology falls into the "understanding" category in Bloom's Taxonomy.

2. Rushmore
The guys in the video went above and beyond anything I could ever do. They recreated Mt. Rushmore and took a picture to see if Google Goggle would recognize it. This tool could be used in the classroom when students need to do research projects. They can take a picture of the topic they want to know more about and all the information would come up. This would fall under the "applying" category of Bloom's Taxonomy because students would take what they already know and apply it to Google Goggle to learn more.

3. Video Chat Magic
This video really is magic. I don't quite understand how she did this but it looked really cool. My students could use this in the classroom or even at home to chat with classmates or a pen pal! It is another way to communicate and it would give students a fun way to talk to each other besides texting. This feature could also be used to construct a cool video like they did on demo slam. That would make the students have to think out of the box and it would be considered "creating" under Bloom's Taxonomy.

Some More Ideas:
4. Google Docs- I think this tool is amazing. I love that it allows you to collaborate with a group of other students without ever having to get together. I hate group projects but this tool makes life so much easier. I would definitely have my students use this in class. I would consider it "apply" in B.T.
5. Google Calendar- As a teacher, I think this is one great way to share information and due dates with my students and their parents. That way they know what to expect and what is going on without having to call and bug me! My students could also create their own calendar to stay organized. This would go under "analyzing" in B.T. because students would have to determine what is important in their life and prioritize their calendars.
6. Google Image Search- I really like this tool but I wish it was more controlled so naughty pictures don't come up. I really like though how you can search for anything and a million options come up and you can also find similar things. The icon feature is cool too. Students can use this to find images for projects and i would consider it to be "apply"
7. Google SketchUp- This tool looks really complicated but it would be fun to see what students can design. This would definitely be "create" in B.T.
